Daniel Schmitt & Co. presents 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL

Daniel Schmitt & Co. presents 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL – Coming up for public sale for the first time in over a decade, is the chance to own one of “The King’s” personal automobiles that spent time parked in front of Graceland (as seen in the image above). This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL was purchased new in 1970 in Memphis, Tennessee by Elvis Presley. The “King” of Rock’n’Roll was no stranger to high-end cars; he owned numerous Cadillacs, BMWs, Rolls-Royces, Lincolns, Ferraris, and a few Mercedes.

The 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL for sale here is a top-of-the-line Sedan, which Elvis also purchased from Robertson’s Mercedes-Benz and signed for on December 21, 1970. The car left the factory with code 542 (Dark Red) paint, but that color wasn’t up to the “King’s” standards. He soon had it repainted in Alpha Crystal Blue Metallic, a color suspiciously similar to that of his Powder Blue 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 Limo. This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL is one of very few cars that Elvis was seen in on a regular basis driving around Memphis.

After Elvis’ death in 1977, his 280SEL was put on display at a prominent museum where it remained until earlier this year. The vehicle is still equipped with its factory options including air conditioning, power windows, power steering, power brakes, and a Becker Europa radio that is still in working condition. This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL is well documented and comes with copies of the title registration, the original title (both of which bear Elvis’ signature), a copy of the original Bill of Sale, as well as a photo of the vehicle parked in front of Graceland.

Featured on eBay Motors Blog and UK’s Express, Elvis Presely’s Mercedes-Benz 280SEL is enjoying its own share of popularity –

“Elvis had a penchant for cars, and while it would be a stretch to call him a driving enthusiast, he definitely collected luxury models like most other people would stack up snow globes or Franklin Mint die-casts. This 1971 280SEL was purchased by Elvis at the tail end of 1970, a period which coincided with the six-cylinder version of the car starting to phase out of Mercedes-Benz dealerships in favor of the upcoming W116 redesign. The 280SEL joined Presley’s fleet of Cadillacs, Ferraris, and Rolls-Royces, but perhaps most importantly for Elvis fanatics, it was a car that The King was often seen driving around himself, rather than being chauffeured in.” Read the whole article here.

“Car fanatics and music fans are expected to battle it out to get their hands on Elvis Presley’s old Mercedes after it was put up for sale on eBay. […] The King of Rock and Roll bought the Mercedes 280 SEL saloon new in 1970 in Memphis, Tennessee. It was originally dark red but Elvis wasn’t happy with the colour and had it repainted Alpha Crystal Blue Metallic, a similar colour to his cherished Mercedes 600 Limo.He would regularly drive the saloon around Memphis and kept it until when it was put on Museum display.” Read the full article here.

Over time, experience and a worldwide market dictated many changes in the sublimely beautiful Jaguar E-Type. During the first seven years of the E-Type’s life, the changes were evolutionary, culminating in the 1968 release of the E-Type Series II, a substantial redesign that also foreshadowed many of the attributes of the Series III V12 models that entered production in 1971.

Federal regulations in the United States, Jaguar’s most important market, drove some of the Series II’s changes, including revised lighting and the shift to a pair of Stromberg carburetors in place of the three SU units seen primarily on earlier E-Types. Externally, the radiator air intake increased substantially in size, a change masked by larger, full-width bumpers that were matched at the rear to meet U.S. low speed impact requirements. The well-proven 4.2-liter E-Type six-cylinder engine was little changed although a twenty-five percent higher capacity water pump was fitted to take advantage of the larger radiator air intake, better adapting the E-Type to hotter climates. The chassis got bigger Girling brakes with three-piston calipers at the front and two-piston calipers at the rear. Inside, reclining seats were now standard.

The evolution of the E-Type meant buyers of the Series II got a much better, more adaptable, comfortable and reliable Jaguar, attributes that complemented its already well-established reputation for superior performance, handling, ride and appearance.

The 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2 Coupe featured here is finished in stunning Signal Red with a beautiful new black leather interior. It was recently restored and had a complete engine rebuild performed by a marquee specialist. Accompanying this 2+2 Coupe is its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, owner’s manual, tools and more. We’re proud to offer this investment-grade Series II to the most particular collector or enthusiast who appreciates a well restored example.

Daniel Schmitt & Co. Classic Car Gallery presents 1995 Porsche 928 GTS

When the 928 was first launched in 1978, Porsche viewed it as a possible replacement for the 911. While the 911 was and is still today considered a pure sports car, the 928 was a Grand Tourer and one of few Porsche’s to feature a front engine design. Porsche engineers were able to achieve a 50/50 weight distribution by mounting a transaxle in the rear. This achievement was praised given the V8 engine layout and made the 928 an extremely well handling car with more potential for higher power output. When launched the 928 was powered by a 4.5 liter V8 that was good for 219 horsepower.

The model would go through various design improvement throughout its production run, each with increased performance. This would culminate with the release of the 928 GTS. The GTS featured the largest 928 V8 engine to date, displacing 5.4 liters and produced 345 horsepower. Updated bodywork featured re-sculpted rear fenders and larger front brakes ensured short distance stops under the most demanding circumstances. Being one of the most expensive cars on the road in its time, the 928 GTS offered sporting thrills while sitting in the lap of luxury. Production would end in 1995, but the legacy of the 928 and particularly the 928 GTS live on in the finest of sports car circles.

The 1995 Porsche 928 GTS offered here is finished in stunning Guards Red with an impeccably kept black leather interior. This last production year 928 is one of only 47 built for the U.S. Market; it has been meticulously maintained and driven just 21,284 miles from new. A recent full service by a marque specialist was completed less than 150 miles ago. This Porsche is well-optioned and comes equipped with a factory sunroof, factory air conditioning (front and rear), power seats, AM/FM cassette with a 6-disc CD changer and more. It is accompanied by its original books, factory tools, service records and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Previous long-term collector ownership and spectacular original condition make this investment-grade Porsche one of the best examples available on the market today.

Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013 and posting gains of 395-percent over the last 10-years.

2016 Car of the Year

Daniel Schmitt and Co. Classic Car Gallery St. Louis – Recently Sold

Just in time for the New Year this stunning Ivory 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II is being prepped for takeoff, as it is being flown over to its enthusiastic new owner in Switzerland.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II is the absolute pinnacle of style and old-world craftsmanship. With extremely low production, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II is a rare automobile by any measure; they are the last of the separate-chassis cars from Crewe, England to be built. The Silver Shadow was the last Rolls-Royce manufactured that employed body-on-frame construction; the days of cars being hand crafted by artisans in Crewe are now just a fond memory. However, that care and craftsmanship distinguishes them from every other car ever created; the coach-built touches epitomize the style and grace associated with a classic Rolls-Royce and exemplify it as a rolling sculpture.

The 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II pictured here is finished in Light Ivory with a superbly kept tan Connolly leather interior and dark brown piping accent. This stunning Silver Shadow II has had only had one meticulous owner since new and is among one of the finest examples we have ever had the pleasure of offering. This impeccable Rolls-Royce has been driven just a mere 10,000 miles and virtually cannot be told from new! It comes equipped with power windows, power seats, power disc brakes, air conditioning and more. A recent complete service has been performed and this motorcar is now ready to join its new owner in Switzerland! Congratulations, we hope you enjoy this vehicle for many years to come!

Daniel Schmitt and Co. presents – 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT

The Ferrari Dino 246 GT was a rolling homage to Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, as it offered a uniquely exhilarating mid-engined driving experience that was wrapped up in one of Pininfarina’s most balanced designs.
Dino Ferrari, a trained engineer, had proposed a downsized engine range in the 1950s, but his untimely passing in 1956 meant that he never got to see his dream come to fruition. Eventually, his father Enzo approved the Dino sub-brand to serve as a gateway brand and to square off against cars like the Porsche 911. With its mid-mounted V-6 allowing for ideal weight distribution and a more streamlined nose, the Dino was a true sports car that was genuinely worthy of the Ferrari name.

To top it all off, its aggressive, Modena-bred exhaust note gave most owners, and the contemporary press, little to complain about. For 1969, the Dino’s 2.0-litre engine was enlarged to 2,418 cubic centimetres, giving the 206 its new 246 nomenclature. The Fiat-built, 65-degree powerplant featured an iron block with alloy heads and was enough to catapult the Leonardo Fioravanti-designed 246 GT into great sales success. Their responsive handling and free-revving engines characterized Ferrari well into the 1990s, giving the Dino a long-lasting appeal.
